DEACON ALEX – OUR RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CANTEEN - WITH US IN ITALY.

From November 23rd to 29th 2019, Deacon Alex spent a few days with us here in Italy.

Alex is part of our team and specifically follows Mida canteen in all its phases.

It was nice to be able to bring his direct testimony of the mission and conditions of the people of Mida in the nursery and primary schools of Veruno, at the primary school of Cavaglio D’Agogna, and also in the Parish of Mergozzo.

Moreover, Alex met most of the people who support the Mission directly through distance adoption. For each of these people there was a written message, coming from the school or family of the supported children, or from the children themselves; we also took a photo of each supporter, to be shown to each supported child. It was an important evening where a pleasant harmony reigned between perfect strangers who share the desire to help these wonderful children, whose average day Alex told us about.

They wake up at 5 o’clock in the morning, a couple of hours of walking to reach the school with a piece of wood to be delivered to the kitchen to light the fire and cook the lunch provided by the canteen, school cleaning, lessons, breakfast and lunch and then redirect to home where they start their work in search of water, wood for cooking or the help of their younger brothers.

For them the school represents the place to relax and be able to feed on the only safe meal of the day, for this reason they never fail to attend, even when they are sick.

Direct and touching his story these days... Many people were struck by his words that never lacked gratitude you for what the Mission owns today and that relieves the daily labors of the families of Mida, but we are the ones who feel to owe Alex a thanks  for his commitment and his testimony during these days.

Alex follows the canteen every day, with great punctuality he provides us with informations and images of the school, the canteen and the children; the photos he sends us always show smiles and this is the best reward for a commitment that should represent the normality of people who, like us,  are simply born luckier.

A journey that consolidates a group working for the benefit of the most needy through a common thread that connects Italy to Kenya, in the name of FRIENDSHIP and SOLIDARITY.
